    Radio broadcasting in Greece began in 1928 (Thessaloniki). Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation – ERT (Ελληνική Ραδιοφωνία Τηλεόραση), founded in 1938, is the national public broadcaster, with 4 national radio networks and 20 regional branches on MW/FM and international service (The Voice of Greece) on Shortwave in 9 languages. FM broadcasting launched in 1977, first private radio station opened in 1988. Broadcasting is regulated by the National Council for Radio and Television – NCRTV (Εθνικό Συμβούλιο Ραδιοτηλεόρασης). Currently there are over 1400 FM radio stations in Greece, including several commercial radio networks; several Medium wave and 1 Shortwave transmitter; 1 DAB multiplex. Primary language on radio is Greek.
